Taking Action
Dr. Hiral Tipirneni
Dr. Tipirneni is a candidate for Arizona's 6th Congressional District. In order to support her campaign, I have spent around 12 hours volunteering, either by writing postcards or phone banking.
Healthcare Plan
According to Dr. Tipirneni's website, there foundational principle of her plan is that everyone should have healthcare, which aligns with my goal of universal coverage. Her main plan is an "affordable buy-in" to Medicare. While this proposal does not address the issues with the Medicare payment system, it represent an example of a public-option plan that would expand coverage.

Dr. Tipirneni also promotes the continuation of ACA essential benefits and mentions competition as a factor in favor of her Medicare public option, both of which align with the policies highlighted on the goals page.

While she does not have opinions for all of the goals mentioned, her plan does include another favorable policy option mentioned in my research:
-
Secure Payment of Cost-Sharing Reductions: This provision refers to a legal requirement that insurance companies waive cost-sharing below 250% of the Federal Poverty Line. Under the Obama Administration, Cost-Sharing Reduction Payments were seen as a mandatory appropriation, but the Trump Administration did not continue the policy. Because insurance companies no longer receive the same payments, they have raised premiums for other consumers.

Dr. Tipirneni also wants to protect parts of the Affordable Care Act, which is a contrast to many Congressional Republicans who aim to repeal the Act and its protections. Seeing as my policy goals depend on expanded coverage that builds on the ACA, Tipirneni's position is beneficial.
Why Dr. Tipirneni?
The healthcare goals I researched are largely dependent on Democratic support, as they derive from either bipartisan legislation or Democratic public option proposals. In Arizona, Congressional District 6 is considered by 270towin.com to be the only "toss-up" House race in the state. Seeing as her views on healthcare are consistent with my personal goals and considering the significant challenge in her district, it made sense to support her campaign. If she is elected, it could add another advocate for a public option to the House of Representatives and flip a Republican seat, which would likely favor decreasing government healthcare coverage, to a Democratic one.
